Reserch on Identification of 12-year Compusory Education Admission Method and Decision factors of School Selection for Junior High School Students in Taichung City

This study aims to explore the identification of admission method in 12-year compusory education and decision factors of school selection for junior high school students in Taichung city. The results and discussions are capable of serving as the foundation for education institutions to realize the junior high school students’ identification degree and improve the future education policy. Moreover, the study also offers the suggestion for parents and teachers to help students choose the right schools when they’re going to continue their study. The study was conducted through a survey research method. The questionnaire was analyzed by reliabiliey analysis and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) after pilot testing. In formal test, 1085 pieces of valid questionnaires wewe derived from the ninth grade students in Taichung city. Then, the formal test data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t test and one - way ANOVA. According to the research results, the conclusions are made as follows: 1.The average identification of junior high school students to 12-year compusory education admission method is at a moderately high degree. 2.There are no significant differences in the identification of 12-year compusory education admission method between male and female students; however, the research results show the significant differences among different family situations, parents’ educational levels and occupations, family finance situations, academic achievement levels, and school types. 3.The most emphatic internal factor of school selection for junior high school students is “their personal interests, aspiration and ideal”. 4.For the internal factors of school selection, there are no significant differences among students’ genders, fathers’ educational levels and occupations, mothers’ occupations and their family finance situations. On the other hand, there are significant differences in internal factors of school selection among the different family situations, mothers’ educational levels, academic achievement levels, and school types. 5.The most emphatic extrinsic factor of school selection for junior high school students is “teachers and peers”. 6.For the extrinsic factor of school selection, there are no significant differences among students’ genders, fathers’ educational levels, mothers’ educational levels and occupations, academic achievement levels, and school types. However, the results show significant differences in the extrinsic factor among different fathers’ occupations and family finance situations.
