A Study on Chinese Textbooks in Junior High School:An Analysis of Contents About Emotions

Popis: | 105 This study aims to analyze the contents of positive emotions and negative emotions in junior high schoo Chinese textbooks,and compare the differences between the versions of the textbooks. The study was based on “Grade 1-9 Curricular Guidelines” of year 2008. The subjects of this research were 7-9 grade Chinese textbooks of “Nan Yi Edition,” “Kang Hsuan Edition” and “Han Lin Edition,” 18 books in total. The researcher reviewed the domestic and foreign literatures to build up the analytical category table of positive emotions and negative emotions as a basis on content analysis. The research is also based on quantitative analysis and supplemented by the description of the text. After examining the content of positive emotions and negative emotions in junior high schoo Chinese textbooks, the research conclusioned as follows: 1.According to main categories, these three versions had more contents of “positive emotions” than “negative emotions.” The textbooks of “Nan Yi Edition” is particularly evident. 2.According to the different grades, the 7 grade text textbook contents about emotions are more abundant. 3.The “Kang Hsuan” presented more content of “positive emotions” category and the “negative emotions” category than the“Han Lin”Editions and “Nan Yi Edition”. 4.According to the sub-categoy “positive emotions,” these three versions preferred the descriptions of “happy” and“love”. 5.According to the sub-category “negative emotions,” these three versions preferred the descriptions of “anxiety”. Based on the study results, the research made some suggestions to the textbook publishers, the teachers’ instruction and the studies in the future. |
