In the research, the objective is to build an automatic system to measure the three dimensional shape of the inspected objects based on using fringe pattern projections. There are two types of fringe patterns are employed in the study; one is single strip fringe pattern and another one is multiple strip fringe pattern. For single strip fringe pattern, the inspected target is located on a moving platform and moves along one direction which is perpendicular to the strip line. The inspected target is scanned by single strip fringe pattern, and the 3D shape is obtained by fringe shift. For multiple strip fringe pattern, three phase shifting images are captured by moving the inspected target. Phase wrapping in the phase-shifting method is the process to determine the phase values of the fringe patterns, and the height of the inspected targets could be obtained from Phase unwrapping map. In the experiments, there are two types of inspected targets, metal and non-metal objects. Each one is measured by two methods, single and multiple strip fringe patterns, respectively. The results would be compared to check which method is better for different targets, and the suggested method for different target is determined by experiment results.
