The purpose of this study is to investigate the errors types and causes of high school students’ learning permutation and combination. It expects to provide teaching strategies and remedial teaching references to enhance students' learning outcomes. The “Permutation and Combination of Learning Diagnostic Tests" developed by the researcher was applied in the study as the instrument. 156 tenth graders from Changhua County participated in the study. The research found errors types of the permutation and combination are: counting misconception in fundamental counting principals; enumerate misconception; computational errors, and unfinished solving problems. The causes of the permutation and combination errors: not proficient in the basic concepts, the permutation and the repeated permutation, the permutation problems collocation principle; and computational errors.
