A Study on the Relationship among the Principal's Instructional Leadership, the Teacher's Occupational Stress, and the Teacher's Work Commitment in Elementary Schools in Kaohsiung City

Popis: | 105 This study aimed to explore the relationship between principal instructional leadership, teacher occupational stress, and work commitment of elementary school teachers in Kaoshiung City. The study employed the survey technique and utilized the “Kaohsiung City Elementary School Principal Instructional Leadership and Teacher Occupational Stress and Work Commitment Questionnaire” as research tool to survey 510 teachers from 52 public elementary schools in Kaohsiung City and received 488 valid samples. Data analysis was conducted using statistical methods such as descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Based on the data analysis above, the conclusion of the study is as follows: 1.The level of perceived principal instructional leadership of elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung City is upper-intermediate, among them, teachers have the highest perceived level towards school administration. 2.The level of occupational stress of elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung City is lower-intermediate, among them, the highest perceived level is workload. 3.The level of perceived work commitment of elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung City is upper-intermediate, among them, the highest perceived level is job involvement. 4.Elementary school teachers of different genders and current positions have significant difference on the level of perceived principal instructional leadership; there is no significant difference on the level of perceived principal instructional leadership for teachers of different ages, seniorities, highest level of educations, and school sizes. 5.Teachers of different current positions and school sizes have significant difference on the level of perceived occupational stress; there is no significant difference on the level of perceived job stress for teachers of different genders, ages, seniorities, and highest level of educations. 6.Teachers of different genders, current positions, and school sizes have significant difference on the level of perceived work commitment; there is no significant difference on the level of perceived work commitment for teachers of different ages, seniorities, and highest level of educations. 7.There is a negative correlation between the principal instructional leadership and teacher occupational stress, indicating that the higher level of elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung City have towards perceived principal instructional leadership, the lower level they have towards perceived occupational stress. 8.There is a positive correlation between the principal instructional leadership and teacher work commitment, indicating that the higher level of elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung City have towards principal instructional leadership, the higher their work commitment. 9.There is a negative correlation between teacher occupational stress and work commitment, indicating the lower occupational stress of elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung City have, the higher their work commitment. 10.Good comprehenders of principal instructional leadership and poor comprehenders of teacher job stress have higher work commitment. 11.Principal instructional leadership and occupational stress have predictive function to work commitment and professional challenge is the main predictor variable. Researcher will propose suggestions based on the result of the study to educational administration authority, elementary school principals, and future study for reference. |
