Thermal Comfort in Naturally Ventilated Classrooms-Take Example of One Elementary School in Kaohsiung City

People pay more attention to the quality of life in today’s pace, creating more comfortable learning environment has become the goal of each school, and the great classroom environment will also affect the students’ learning efficiency. However, climate change is getting worse, it’s necessary and valuable to investigate whether the physical factors of the old buildings are in accordance with the pupils’ thermal comfort needs. In this study, we used single point of time monitoring, automatic continuous measurement and on-site survey as parameters to get the comfort physical factors (including indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, wind speed, CO2 concentration, illumination, and noise) and the amount of clothing, thermal comfort feeling, environmental satisfaction feeling as the subjective parameters. They were used to show the correlation and mutual influence between the parameters and the thermal comfort. In the outdoor temperature of 21.7℃~25.7℃ range, the linear equation to calculate the comfort temperature of 21.03℃~29.27℃. The results can be used to estimate the students’ needs and scope for the good thermal comfort of the classroom and then to serve as the references of improving the classroom environment quality.
