Slopeland is subject to gravity, rainfall, wind, and earthquake induced rockfalls, landslides, and debris flows. Manmade development is also one of the factors leading to slopeland disasters. It is necessary to monitor the changes in slopes for disasters prevention and mitigation. With the development of science and technology, satellite imagery and spatial analysis have become widely used for large-scale landslide aerial investigation and estimation of landslide magnitude. The estimation of landslide magnitude is essential for engineering planning and designation. In this study, Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial analysis and ground monitoring at boring holes are used to analyze the potential landslide magnitude and compared with changes in digital terrain models (DTMs) and satellite images. With the aid of GIS spatial analysis and 3D presentation, landslide volume and moving velocity are estimated. The application of GIS spatial analysis provides more useful information for landslide monitoring than traditional monitoring.
