An empirical study on the effect of diabetes-related product sales on the revenue of a medical supply company

Popis: | 105 Recent year, diabetes has ranked the fourth among the top ten causes of death in Taiwan. While beside the burden on social welfare, the high rate of suffering diabetes also requires consistent following care and high medical spending. Current treatments of diabetes are mainly making improvements, relying on Balanced diet, effective exercise, normal daily routine and drug using. Therefore patients have substantial and consistent demands on related medical products, which brings certain influences on profits of the medical supply industry. Focusing on the relations between diabetes patients’ purchase behaviors and profits of medical companies, we conduct evaluations for the influence degree to companies’ business status; and then purpose advises about diabetes patient on-site purchasing behaviors as references for their developing strategies. The study selects the store data of a medical company from 2009 to 2011 and the data items include major products, peripheral products, year, season, region, and store number in the region. With the features of possessing time series data and cross sections, Panel Date is used to build models for analyzing the influences on business revenue and gross profits. The empirical results show that the sales amounts of major products and peripheral products of diabetes brings positive influences on both business revenue and gross profits; while the store number in the region has no significant influences, which reveals that the company shall focus on developing plans for sales marketing and promotion and establishing stores location assessment system for future strategies..
