Popis: | 105 Objective: According to a recent World Health Organization (WHO) survey, 1.9 billion adults are overweight or obese. Obesity is also the worst health risk which has been linked with 8 major causes of death in Taiwan. In this study, we evaluated anti-obese function of Saccharomyces cerevisiae product in a diet-induced obesity in rats. Methods: A high calorie diet-induced rat model was adopted to evaluate the prevention of adipogenesis by Saccharomyces cerevisiae products from Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation (TTL), abbreviated as TTL-FPC. We investigated the efficacy of TTL-FPC at two doses on body compositions and biochemical indexes against diet-induced obesity. Results: The data showed that both 1- and 5-fold dose of TTL-FPC significantly prevented the high calorie diet-induced body weight gain and body fat accumulation. In addition, both 1- and 5-fold dose of TTL-FPC significantly decreased serum levels of free fatty acids, triacylglycerol, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, ketone bodies, and the ratio of LDL-C/HDL-C, as well as hepatic triacylglycerol and total cholesterol levels. In conclusion: We suggested the Saccharomyces cerevisiae derived product by TTL has a great potential application in the prevention of obesity. Keywords: obesity, brewer's yeast, body fat |
