It is extremely important to evaluate the effectiveness of the sport psychology consultants who were actually the key executor of the intervention program and had critical influence on the program effectiveness is. This current study was to explore the major components of evaluation of effective sport psychology consultants as well as to induce the dimensions of evaluation of sport psychology consultants’ effectiveness. In Phase 1, 87 effective characteristics of sport psychology consultants derived from previous findings of qualitative and quantitative research, consultants’ reflections, and key measures in the field of applied sport psychology were identified. In phase 2, Delphi method was employed for three rounds of discussion by a panel of 20 experts. 60 items that were broad, comprehensive, relevant, and applicable to the majority of both coaches and athletes in evaluating sport psychology consultant effectiveness were identified. In Phase 3, 6 constructs were identified- (1) professionalism, (2) rapport, (3) availability, (4) fit in, (5) psychological skill training (PST), and (6) team communication. Moreover, two additional constructs with 9 items were identified as “overall evaluation” and “client impact”. Future research may use the results to develop a questionnaire with examination of EFA and CFA in order to help sport psychology consultants systematically evaluate their work and then improve their service quality for athletes and coaches.
