Establishing Cutter Location File for Numerical Control by Using Machine Vision – Example Study on Wind Deflector

In this research, the automatic optical measurement (AOM) system is used to replace the traditional manual positioning process. Before automatic positioning, there are two problems needed to be solved such as deflection and shift of the clamped workpiece. The positioning issue is very important for this research. In this research, visual C++ and Open CV image library are used to generate cutter location path for further numerical control from machine vision. To verify the system the wind deflector is utilized as the research objective. To obtain the correct data of position for positioning processing the author needs to generate the relationship between the image coordinate system and the world coordinates through calibration points which is obtained by multiple regression analysis. The whole image of the wind deflector which is captured by the capture device above the workpiece platform. In order to find the target image of wind deflector the method of image filtering is used to remove the background and noise. Finally, the processing of the wind deflector of the start points, end points and the processing path are obtained by method of contours positioning. In this research, the wind deflector with 53 cm long and 7 cm wide is used as the main research object and camera with 2 million pixels is used for image capturing. The calibration error of X and Y directions by using regression analysis are about1.327, 1.135 mm, respectively. The maximum positioning error in X and Y directions are 1.728 mm and 1.644 mm, respectively, which are close to the hardware resolution of the proposed image system. By applying suitable compensation value, the proposed system can provide a fully confirmed cutter location for wind deflector.
