The Study of the Relationship between Job Characteristics, Job Involvement, and Teaching Effectiveness of Elementary School Teachers in Tainan City- Personality Traits as a Moderator

This research was meant to explore the correlation between job characteristics and job involvement, the correlation between job characteristics and teaching effectiveness and the correlation between job involvement and teaching effectiveness among the teachers of elementary schools. Additionally, it explored the mediating effect on teaching effectiveness exerted by job characteristics in view of job involvement, together with the interference effect on both job involvement and teaching effectiveness exerted by job characteristics in view of personality traits. The experimental subjects in this research were recruited from the teachers of elementary schools on Tainan City. It was operated by means of questionnaire surveys and there were totally 500 questionnaires delivered and served as researching samples. Resultantly, there were 485 replies received wherein there were 453 valid replies with the validity rated at 90.6%. The data analysis of questionnaires was conducted by using SPSS Version 20 Package Software. Also, regression analysis was conducted for hypothesis validation. Furthermore, hierarchical regression was used to verify mediation and interference effect. Results were confirmed as below: (1) Job characteristics caused remarkably positive influence on job involvement. (2) Job characteristics caused remarkably positive influence on teaching effectiveness. (3) Job involvement caused remarkably positive influence on teaching effectiveness. (4) Job involvement caused remarkably positive influence on teaching effectiveness. (5) In view of the influence on job involvement exerted by job characteristics, personality traits caused no interference effect. (6) In view of the influence on teaching effectiveness exerted by job characteristics, personality traits caused no mediation effect. Finally, based on research findings, concrete suggestions were proposed with the reference available for relevant educational units and upcoming researches.
