A Study on Service Quality and Public Satisfaction of Household Registration in Taichung City

As technologies keep developing and people’s living standard increases with time, the quality of governments’ services people demand becomes higher as well. Household registration offices being a first line agency of service to the people, the upgrading of quality of their services is a key factor of their sustainable development. This study aims to investigate the relationship of today between the service quality and the quality of inter-agency informing service in household registration offices of Taichung City and people’s satisfaction. We designed survey questionnaires on various constructs of service based on documentary theories with reference to worldwide literature regarding “service quality”, “inter-agency integration” and “people’s satisfaction”. With such research tool, we targeted people who visited Taichung City’s household registration offices. The retrieved questionnaires were analyzed with the SPSS software, which involved descriptive statistical analysis, independent samplet-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. From the analytic results, conclusions and recommendations were drawn. This study revealed that in respect of the relationship between the service quality and the quality of inter-agency informing service in household registration offices and people’s satisfaction, from people’s perspective, people’s demand for and reliance on the mobile carrier-based cyber technology are increasing in the context with advance of information technology and easy access to information. Also found were that with the increased awareness of the people, the services of household registration offices should be upgraded in a holistic manner, and that as service requirements are increasing, the registration offices should provide more diverse and more convenient services so as to maximize the convenience for people in receiving public service, which would realize the idea of benefit and convenience for the people.
