Background and Purpose: Moving service providers rely on movers to carry customers’ furniture and household items. Movers are undoubtedly the most valuable assets for moving service providers. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are likely to occur if movers carry heavy items with faulty posture. MSDs also occur when movers carry heavy items. MSDs not only harm workers but result in workday loss and decline in productivity. This study was intended to discuss the risk factors associated with movers’ MSDs based on Health Belief Model (HBM) as well as the factors related to the MSDs preventive behaviors, attempting to promote worksite health, minimize MSDs, and at the same time enhance movers’ physical and mental health. Methods: Cross-sectional study was employed as the research framework. 127 movers in northern Taiwan were selected for survey using purposive sampling method. Research tools included social demographic data, Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) and health belief questionnaire. One hundred and ten copies of valid questionnaires were received with 86.6% effective response rate. Results: Findings are summarized as follows: 1. Research objects exhibited 87.3% prevalence rate of MSDs last year whereas their low back exhibited 61.8% prevalence rate of MSDs, higher than any other part of their bodies. 2. Movers’ perceived susceptibility exhibited a significant difference. Their perceived susceptibility varied, depending on their ages and whether they were troubled by MSDs before. 3. A significant positive correlation was exhibited by the relationship between the movers’ MSDs preventive behaviors, their average break time, their perceived severity and their cues to action, whereas a negative correlation was exhibited by the relationship between the movers’ MSDs preventive behaviors and their perceived barriers. 4. The multiple regression models of MSDs preventive behaviors had 29.3% of explanatory power whereas perceived severity, perceived barriers, cues to action and average break time served as significant predictors for MSDs preventive behaviors. Conclusions and recommendations: To avoid MSDs, it is necessary to minimize movers’ perceived barriers, to provide them with more cues to action, to initiate occupational safety and health education as well as training programs for them. Moreover, the enhanced intervention activities are recommended, focusing on MSDs preventive behaviors, the causes of MSDs, the importance of using protective devices as well as leaflets, manuals or CD, more cues to action and fewer barriers for movers’ physical and mental health.
