The Influence of Transformational Leadership on Working Stress and Work Life Balance: Identification with Supervisor as a Moderator

A successful enterprise should be willing to recruit talented people and share profits with employees in order to achieve sustainable development; therefore, boosting employees morale, respecting employees, knowing and helping employees, managing and leading employees in different ways, providing training, enhancing leadership skills, caring work life of employees are important to be conducted. For the reasons mentioned above, it is valuable to discuss that transformational leadership is able to make employee’s development. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships among transformational leadership, working stress, and identification with supervisor. Meanwhile, the mediating effect of working stress between transformational leadership and work-life balance is conducted. Also, the moderating effect of identification with supervisor between transformational leadership and working stress is explored in the study. The participants in this research were indirect employees of manufacturing industry and service industry. The questionnaire survey was divided into two stages. 600 questionnaires were distributed in the first stage and 580 valid questionnaires collected. In the second stage, there were 553 valid questionnaires within 580 distributed questionnaires. Excluded the 13 invalid questionnaires, there were 540 valid questionnaires and a 90% return rate. The statistical methods of descriptive statistical analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The empirical results of hypotheses test of the study showed as follows. 1.Transformational leadership has a significantly negative influence on hindrance stress. 2.Transformational leadership has a significantly positive influence on work/personal life enhancement. 3.Challenge stress has a significantly positive influence on work interference with personal life. 4.Challenge stress has a significantly positive influence on personal life interference with work. 5.Hindrance stress has a significantly positive influence on work interference with personal life. 6.Hindrance stress has a significantly positive influence on personal life interference with work. 7.Working stress has no mediating effect between transformational leadership and work-life balance in any dimensions. 8.Identification with supervisor has no moderating effect between transformational leadership and working stress in any dimensions. Based on the results of the study, there are some concrete conclusions and suggestions provided as references in the future study.
