The Effect of Mobile Learning on EFL College Students' Vocabulary, Motivation and Satisfaction

Popis: | 104 The study investigated the role of mobile learning on EFL college students’ vocabulary learning, learning motivation, technology acceptance and satisfaction. Eighty-four EFL college students, 65 males and 19 females, were divided into the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group consisted of 40 students, while the control group included 44 students. The participants’ age ranged from 18 to 20, and most of them have learned English for ten years since third grade in elementary schools. During the eight-week and completed self-learning, both groups took the pretest and posttest of TOEIC 2000 vocabulary test, TAM questionnaire and learning motivation questionnaire. At the end of the treatment, only the experimental group received satisfaction survey. To evaluate participants’ learning gains, independent sample t-tests were performed to see if there were significant differences between the control group and the experimental group. The results showed that the experimental group had significantly higher score than the control group in the posttest of motivation and their technology acceptance level. Thus, students were satisfied with smart phone learning. However, no significant group differences were found in their vocabulary learning. In other words, students’ vocabulary learning via smart phone had no significant difference between two groups. The results indicated that the APP could promote students’ learning motivation, technology acceptance and satisfaction toward English vocabulary learning. |
