A Study of the Impact on Perceiving Coach's Leadership Behavior to Team Cohesion for Dodgeball Players

This research discusses the study of the relationship between leadership behavior and the cohesion of dodgeball teams at an elementary school based on the player’s perception of the leadership’s behavior. This study also considers and compares the player’s backgrounds and the efficacy of the leadership’s behavior. The research focuses on the contestants in the 2015 Jump In dodgeball competition. Information was collected through a questionnaire survey. 400 surveys were dispatched; 367 completed and valid surveys were returned (91%). The Chinese version of SPSS 18.0 was used for various purposes. Those purposes include: descriptive statistics analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis. The research findings are as follows: I. Among the leadership behavior of dodgeball coaches at an elementary school, “training and instruction” behavior is comprehended better while “autocratic” behavior is comprehended worse; team cohesion, “team adaption” is in higher need, “interpersonal attraction” is in lower need. II. The genders of the dodgeball players in fourth grade, fifth grade and sixth grade significantly affected the response to the leadership’s behaviors; male players were far more likely than female players to respond positively to a leader who implemented both “team work” and “social support.” However, there was not a significant difference between male and female students and their ability to maintain team cohesion. III. The different grade aspect: the dodgeball players of fourth grade, fifth grade and sixth grade perceived leadership behavior in coach “Autocratic Behavior” less than significant difference, other all have the correlation; in consciousness team cohesive force “interpersonal attraction” reaches the remarkable difference, other all have not reached the correlation. IV. Different participation team time aspect: the dodgeball players participation team time of 1year, 1~2years and more than 2years perceived leadership behavior in coach “Positive Feedback”, “Social Support Behavior”, “Autocratic Behavior” reaches the remarkable difference; in consciousness team cohesive force “Interpersonal Attraction” reaches the remarkable difference. V. Different training time aspect: the dodgeball players different training time of 5 hours, 5~10 hours and more than 10 hours per week perceived leadership behavior in coach “Training and Instruction”, “Positive Feedback”, “Autocratic Behavior” reaches the remarkable difference; in consciousness team cohesive force “Interpersonal Attraction”, “Team Adaption” and so on in three construction surface to reach the remarkable difference. VI. The dodgeball players’ contestant consciousness training to lead the behavior and the team cohesive force in respectively toward, Presents is being connected in Pearson correlation analysis rate correlation minute result and reaches the remarkable difference.
