We live in the era of “Knowledge-based Economy”. People need to keep on learning and develop their potentials, and library is the perfect place for their lifelong learning plans. Nowadays public libraries try to enhance their operational performance to attract more people to visit. The aim of this research is to study the service quality satisfaction of New Taipei City Library (The New Main Library), and hoping the results might serve as references for this library’s service quality improvements. This study employed questionnaires given to the New Taipei City Library 's readers. After collecting the questionnaires, Descriptive Statistics Analysis, Independent Samples t-test, Pearson product-moment Correlation, and Importance-Performance Analysis were performed to get the conclusions as follows: 1.There are more female readers than male readers who visit the New Taipei City Library (The New Main Library), of which the age structure is from 16 to 30 years old. In terms of education level, they are mostly university educated, profession mainly students. 2.Readers of different ages showed significant differences in four dimensions: "library environment and space", "library resources", "attitude of librarian towards the reader" and "campaigns", in which the satisfaction of readers under 15 years old was significantly higher than the readers of other ages. 3.The results of Importance-Performance Analysis showed there were eight “Keep it up” service quality items, proves readers were highly satisfied. The “immediate improvement” items were “provides quiet personal spaces” and “satisfactory quantity of paper or electronic journals”. In summary, it is recommended the library promote good library manners such as keep low talking voices, in order to provide readers quiet spaces; give more descriptions on usage of paper or electronic journals to improve reading rates; and a complete and enriched librarian training program to enhance professional knowledge of librarians. Key words:Public library, Service Quality, Importance-Performance Analysis
