Development of Inspection System of Axial Lines for Machine Tools

The development of five-axis machine tools evolved from the three-axis. Accuracy of machine tools will directly affect the accuracy, performance, and appearance of products. The flexibility of five-axis machine tools is higher and so the requirement for accuracy needs to improve. The motion of each axis of the machine tools has axial errors. Owing to the specialty inspection systems are very expensive, we developed an inspection system which had the low cost and convenient manipulation to improve accuracy and quality of machine tools. This proposed inspection system used the RLE10 to measure the positioning accuracy of linear axes. Compared with Renishaw XL80 laser Interferometer, the positioning error was 2.7 μm. The dual read heads were utilized for inspecting the positioning accuracy of rotary axes. Compared with Renishaw XR20 laser Interferometer, the angle positioning error was 0.000853 degrees. We applied the PSD to measure the run-outs of rotary axes. Compared with Pinpoint instrument, the horizontal and vertical run-outs were 0.0939μm/mm and 0.05657μm/mm, respectively.
