Photocatalytic degradation of formaldehyde using TiO2 thin film with nanorods deposited on lithium niobate

TiO2 thin film with nanorods was deposited on 128°Y-cut and 64°Y-cut lithium niobate substrates to fabricate a surface acoustic wave nano-photocatalytic device. TiO2 thin films were deposited via radio frequency magnetron sputtering and TiO2 nanorods were synthesized on the TiO2 thin films by chemical solution. The two substrates were selected to investigate the effect of vibration mode on photocatalytic proper in formaldehyde environment. The crystalline structure and surface morphology of TiO2 thin films with nanorods were examined using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, photoluminescence spectrometer and energy dispersive spectrometers. Frequency responses, phase of transmitted signals, wave velocities, and electromechanical coupling coefficients of devices were measured using network analyzer. The performance of devices was characterized by photocatalytic degradation of formaldehyde in air. Effects of interdigital transducer widths and input voltages of the devices on photocatalytic degradation of formaldehyde were investigated.
