The objective of this work was to study the gas tungsten arc welding on cell competency evaluation of 420 stainless steel. It used DC current mode and dc negative to do welding experiment, tungsten was EWTh-2. Welding current were 90A, arc length were 3 mm, electrode angle were 60 degree and welding speed 140 mm/min. It focuses on the polarization curves, SEM and MTT analysis. The electrolyte electrochemical used simulated body fluid, from polarization curves can been seen, base-metal has better than other, but three-pass of 420 stainless steel has better than two-pass and one-pass, probably is multi-pass welding create Cr reflow, resulting in corrosion resistance better than two-pass and one- pass. In vitro test were used women skins cell, from result can been seen, base-metal than one-pass of 420 stainless steel has better cell viability. As can be seen from the above observations, base-metal than 420 stainless steel after welding, has better corrosion resistance and cell viability.
