Popis: | 104 In recent years, the government has been actively encouraging people to become entrepreneurs by implementing related welfare policies such as support funding and related ideas through counselors. In this work, the data of Manpower Utilization Survey from 1993 to 2014 are used to exemplify how the unemployment rate is a key indicator of business cycles and the “push-pull effect” is used to illustrate why people engage in self entrepreneurship and if there is any impact of business cycle on people engaging in entrepreneurship. Our results show that high unemployment rates caused by economic recession would result in fewer people engaging in self-entrepreneurship. Furthermore, compared to females, males have a higher probability of engaging in entrepreneurship in economic recession. Moreover, undergraduate degree holders are more likely to become entrepreneurs. Finally, we use Bayesian quantile regression to estimate how unemployment rates affect people with different degrees of entrepreneurial intention. The results indicate that people with low entrepreneurial intention are more easily affected by unemployment rate, which in turn means, people with low entrepreneurial intention are more easily affected by economic fluctuation and thus engage in entrepreneurship. |
