Effects of Using iTS5 Interactive Teaching Platform for Previewing Course Materials on Fifth-graders' Mathematics Performance: A Case Study

Popis: | 104 The purpose of this case study is to investigate the effects of using iTS5 interactive teaching platform for previewing course materials on fifth-graders’ mathematics performancee and to examine the math teacher’ teaching approaches. The teaching materials adopted for this study were unit 5-8 of Nani Elementary Mathematics Textbook (Vol. 10). Eight fifth-graders and their math teacher participated in the study. The teacher’s teaching approaches and the pupils’ performance after using iTS5 were examined. Before the class, the pupils were required to record the content of the video shown on iTS5 in their math learning dairies in the previewing process. In class, the teacher taught math concepts and helped to clarify pupils’ misconceptions. The data included pupils’ dairies, performance assessment, pupil’s interviews after class, teacher’s interviews during and after class, and recording of the teaching activities in the classroom. The results show that the pupils were able to learn some of the content in the preview. After the preview, the teacher’s instruction on math concepts enhanced pupils’ learning. This sequence of preview and instructional activities show positive effects on students’ math performance. |
