The Effectiveness of Implementation of Creative Project Making Camp in Hospitality Category of Vocational High School Teachers and Students.

The research aims to explore the effectiveness of Creative Project Making Camp, held by National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT). The camp implemented an efficient teaching course to ten teams, including teachers and students in hospitality category from different vocational high schools as well as ten intern teachers from NKUHT. The direction of this research are as follows: 1) To examine the influence of the camp on three stakeholders, teachers, students, and intern teachers. 2)To delve into the effects on students’ project making proficiency after participating the Creative Project Making Camp. 3) To comprehend intern teachers’ perspectives to future teaching strategies after attending the camp. 4) To take the participants’ suggestions seriously. 5) To contribute valuable advice and reference to future planning of course development and further research. The research applied case study method to reach the goal of thick understanding. The data-collection process was through open-ended parts of the questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with three kinds of interviewees, teachers, students, and intern teachers. The analysis showed the following results: 1) The effects on teachers’ teaching strategies are not only to teach students in accordance of their aptitude but to interact positively with students. Furthermore, students’ overall proficiency is strengthened. In details, there are presentation skills, confidence, responsibility, comprehension of product design, observation skills, self-assessment ability, ability of data-collection and document processing, productivity of teamwork, interpersonal communication, time management, a sense of achievement, creativity, stress management, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills. 2) The intern teachers’ attainments from the camp are to carry on the strategy of critical thinking in classes and to be knowledgeable of project making courses and procedure of a competition. 3) Participants suggested that the course of project making should focus on the introduction of basic knowledge and institution visit should specifically select those institutions who emphasize the importance as well as hospitality but tourism. 4) The critical thinking course should combine with the idea of research project. The competition of creative research project should avoid vote for fun, also it should but bring into course of how to do the documentation processing. In conclusion, the findings can be a valuable reference to course development of project making curriculum and further research.
