Explore the Relation of Adolescents' Self- esteem, Emotion Regulation and Self-harm Behavior.

Popis: | 104 The purpose of this study was to investigate the type and degree of self-harm behavior among adolescent and the mediating effect of emotion regulation between self esteem and self-harm behavior. Research was base on questionnaire survey; the sample consisted of 727 Taiwaness public junior high school students, the statistical method t test, one-way ANOVA, regression anaylysis and Sobel test were used to analyze the data. The results were as follows: (1) There were 36.59% of adolescent have attempted self-harm behavior once or more times within the past 1 year, most adolescent(84.5%) had self-harm behavior again, and the most commonly used type of self-harm behavior is banging the fist against the wall(13.64%), self-cutting(13.54%), scratching the skin (10.93%), self-biting(7.45%), engraving the skin (7.16%); (2) The gender and grade of adolescence were not difference significantly on self-harm behavior ration and self-harm behavior degree; (3) On the type of self-harm behavior, female do significantly higher than male in self-cutting, scratching the skin, attempt to stop from recovering, banging the head against the wall, and self-biting. Furthermore, on the grade level, there was difference in the self-biting and engraving the skin behaviors; (4) Self- esteem and emotion regulation could predict adolescent’s self-harm behavior in the past 1 year successfully. (5) There was mediating effect of emotion regulation on the relationship between self- esteem and self- harm behavior. Finally, based on the results of this research, the researcher discussed the implications for counseling adolescents and suggested possible research directions for future reference. |
