Company A, the focus of this study, is a major logistics company in Taiwan. This study looks into one of its operations office that handles allocation of facilities and human resources in trucking operations. Facing a slow growth situation, Company A assigned its drivers with sales responsibilities, in order to reduce total manpower. There were negative effects as a result of the move. This study interviewed key staffs and employed the system thinking loops approach to analyze the problem. Results shows that forcing drivers to act as sales produced negative effects, and reducing manpower through such actions would only raise the pressure to improve the financial performance. System thinking loops could clearly explain the causal relationship. Finally, we also suggested research directions for improving financial performance for Company A.
