Integrating social media into classroom management: A perspective from the uses and gratifications theory

This study adopts the uses and gratifications theory to examine how teachers of Taiwan’s junior-high school use social media to assist them with classroom management. This study employed two methods to collect data, the first of which was intensive interviews on junior-high school teachers who used at least one of the two social media, Facebook and LINE, to assist their classroom management. The second method was a questionnaire survey. This study sent the questionnaires to 337 teachers of junior high schools in northern Taiwan, and 300 valid questionnaires were obtained. The data analysis shows that teachers who adopted both Facebook and LINE for classroom management differed significantly from those who adopted no social media in the gratifications obtained from classroom management.
