The Study on the Correlation between Positive Discipline and Classroom Management for Elementary School Teachers in Nantzu District in Kaohsiung City

The purpose of the research is to investigate elementary school teachers’ positive discipline and classroom management in Nantzu District in Kaohsiung City. Different background variables are used to explore the differences and current situations of elementary school teachers in positive discipline and classroom management, and furthermore to explore the correlation between them. The survey was conducted among nine elementary school teachers in Nantzu District in Kaohsiung City, 280 questionnaires were sent out and 256 valid ones collected, with the effective rate of 87.9%. After testing descriptive statistical analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, valid data is statistically analyzed and summarized. The main results are showed as follows: 1.Elementary school teachers in Nantzu District in Kaohsiung City have good perception about positive discipline. Current situation on classroom management is fine. Teachers can manage their class well with positive discipline. 2. In comparison with female teachers, male ones have better performance on positive discipline and classroom management. 3. Positive discipline is influenced by years of teaching. Senior elementary school teachers are superior to junior ones. 4. Elementary school teachers with a master degree (above) education background have a greater performance on classroom management. 5. There is highly positive correlation between positive discipline and classroom management effectiveness. Hence, the fuller implementation of positive discipline there is, the greater classroom management can be seen.
