In some industries, buyers are not necessarily the users to the services; payers of the services are also not equal to the serviced people. Therefore, if only considering the relationship between service providers and service users, researchers may ignore one important role, that is, the third parties (e.g. residents’families in long term care organizations) and the influence when the third parties are added. A triad has three nodes and three links. This study uses two triadic theories to analyze the relationships among long-term care organizational operators, residents and their families. By interviewing six operators, the results of this study show that synergy effect is a win-win situation for the residents, their families and institutional operators; initiative effect improves the relations with the resident families; competition effect is the worst result for the triadic relationships; lack effect satisfies the residents’ needs but dissatisfies the families of the residents. When the second triadic relationships (Nurse aides - residents - families) are closer than those of the first ones (organizational operators - residents - families), management problems will occur. The latter will even skip out the original organizations. In addition to providing suggestions for the long-term care industry, this study may help other industry associates in managing the triadic relationships, more complex multi-party relationships and business networks.
