Current smartphone screen size is difficult for thumbs to cover the complete screen area on one-handed operation scenarios. This study, based-on cursor pointing theory, affordance, and compatibility theory to design a virtual cursor control interface, for thumb operate to reach distant targets on thumb’s physical comfort zone. Firstly, two different experiments were designed to evaluate four kinds of virtual cursor control interface. Experiment 1 evaluated the efficiency of the interface. Experiment 2 evaluated the learnability of the interface. After experiments done we use SUS (System Usability Scale) to evaluate satisfaction. Three main conclusions are as follows: 1. The type of virtual touchpad with movement compatibility has the best usability. Due to the thumb and cursor have the movement compatibility and has the better affordance. 2. Although magnetic cursor design helps to quickly select targets, but users prefer the continuity of the cursor movement mode. In those control interface, the continuity of the trajectory of the cursor more excellent more able to provide the perception feedback of movement. Conforming to usability theory of pointing Devices. 3. Users rely heavily on their experience in operating a virtual interface; the user experience is applied to the virtual cursor control interface, can enhance the learning of the interface.
