Research of Class E Power Amplifier for High Efficient Wireless Power Transfer

The thesis will discuss the power amplifier of wireless power transfer system. We design two kinds of power amplifier for bio-circuit system and high efficiency power amplifier for mobile device respectively. The bio-circuit system is the implantable electrical stimulation system. In the bio-circuit system, we present the design flow of two high efficiency class E power amplifiers. One power amplifier is implantable stimulation driver that amplifier supports sine-wave pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) stimulated waveform and has high/low stimulation voltage modes. The other is external power amplifier which provides the implantable stimulation working energy and control signal. In order to obtain high/low stimulation voltage modes and save circuit’s size, we designed only one switched series inductor class E power amplifier at implantable stimulation driver. This amplifier maximum efficiency is 92.67% at high voltage mode. In order to obtain wireless power amplifier that functions include wireless power transfer and communication, we designed complementary asymmetric output waveform power amplifier. The power amplifier could stably transfer power when the signal was transmitted, the signal transmit method was using different duty-cycle to communication. This bio-circuit system from external power amplifier to implantable stimulation driver output load can obtain 60% efficiency at 10mm coupling distance. Because Inductive Coupling Power Amplifier always has the problem that is the receiver need put the fixed place to let system has high efficient power transfer. In order to improve this problem, we try to use different methods to design class E power amplifier, and discover which inject signal to compensate MOSFET drain voltage can accomplish requirement. Therefore, we use class EM structure to design wireless power amplifier, and redesign the class EM power amplifier with new design condition to achieve requirement. According to wireless power amplifier measurement which measured coupling distance from 0mm to 60mm, the class EM structure power amplifier obtains over 80% efficiency coupling distance range from 0mm~37mm and over 90% efficiency coupling distance range from 3mm~15mm. The maximum efficiency is 91.9% at 11mm。
