Microwave Transport System using All-Optical Frequency Up-Converter

This thesis experimental and demonstrated a microwave transport system using all-optical frequency up-converter to generate frequency quadrupling with one intensity modulator. The scheme is based on a tunable optical filter module and following the intensity modulator bias at null point to achieve frequency-quadrupled signal. A high-quality millimeter-wave signal with a frequency within 30 GHz is generated, and the single-sideband phase noise of the generated signal is −90.59 dBc/Hz at 10-kHz offset, and consistent with theoretical specification. On the other hand, the experiment generated 40、60 and 80 GHz of the millimeter-wave optical signals, and all have well signal to noise ratio.
