An Investigation on the Current Status of Application of Consumer-oriented Images and Colors of Meinong Oil-paper Umbrellas

| Popis: | 103 This study investigates the images and colors of oil-paper umbrellas in cultural industry of Meinong Hakka. With the aggressive promotion and development of cultural industry of Meinong Hakka by the government and local operators, the cultural characteristics of Meinong Hakka have been sustainably developed. In addition, a new opportunity of development has also been created for traditional craft – oil-paper umbrellas in Meinong. The images of Meinong oil-paper umbrellas include traditional Chinese figures, flowers, landscape paintings, and Meinong landscapes. Moreover, bright colors have been used frequently. Although oil-paper umbrellas actually are not practical, their value relies on local characteristics and cultural characteristics. Furthermore, oil-paper umbrellas are positively beneficial to sustainable development of Meinong Hakka culture. This study intends to use “interviews” and “questionnaire survey” to investigate the current status of application of images and colors of Meinong oil-paper umbrellas, as well as to analyze tourists’ preference/intention for Meinong oil-paper umbrellas, in order to understand consumers’ willingness to purchase cultural value-added products. The research results show that, with the efforts of local operators, although some of the images and colors of Meinong oil-paper umbrellas have won recognition and tourists have been highly interested in the manufacture of oil-paper umbrellas, tourists’ intention to purchase oil-paper umbrellas has not been high. The main reason is that oil-paper umbrellas are not practical, and neither are they gifts generally accepted by the public.
