Popis: | 103 This research aimed to explore the current status of cognition, attitude, as well as behavior of Penghu’s fifth and sixth graders towards the concept of global warming and to learn how the three aspects were correlated. Through a thorough reference over the literature concerned, the research structure was confirmed with a quantitative approach followed. Utilizing a self-administered questionnaire, this research divided Penghu County into four parts, namely the downtown area, the suburbs, the remote areas, as well as the remote islands, and used a stratified random sampling method to sample 582 students from 38 classes in 14 schools. As a result, 515 valid questionnaires were retrieved with a return rate of 88.4%. Processed by SPSS19.0, the raw data collected went through descriptive statistics, independent-sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, LSD test, as well as PPMCC. The findings are: Students’ main sources of information about global warming were school’s campaigning, teacher’s instructions, and TV broadcasts. Cognitively, the majority of students had misconceptions regarding the impacts and causes of global warming. Students revealed an above-medium level of cognition with the attitude and the behavior tilting towards the positive side. The cognition aspect of global warming significantly correlated with sex and parental involvement, where schoolgirls showed superiority over schoolboys, and students with parents showing a higher level of concern about environmental issues also had a higher cognition level and better behavioral performance regardless of school division and sex. As for the correlations among the three, a high-level positive correlation existed between attitude and behavior; a low-level positive correlation showed between cognition and attitude; however, there was no significant correlation revealed between cognition and behavior. |
