This study aimed to investigate the effect of family education curriculums oriented by positive psychology on junior high school students’ relationship with their family, and further examined if changes of family relationship among junior high schools students of different background variables contributed to significant differences. A quasi-experimental research design was adopted in this study. The participants were recruited from six classes of 7th grade in a junior high school in Kaohsiung. The experimental group experienced one period of positive psychology-oriented family education every week for a total of 10 weeks. The instrument was the self-developed questionnaire that examined family relationship. A pre- and post-test was administered respectively before and after the family education course. The experimental group was also asked to complete an overall feedback survey about the course. A mixed-method research, including both quantitative as well as qualitative data, was used to probe into the effectiveness of practicing positive psychology-oriented family education. The results were as follows: 1.The overall family relationship among the participants’ families was above the intermediate level. 2.After the practice of positive psychology-oriented family education, the experimental group’s score on the family relationship questionnaire was not significantly higher than that of the control group. However, the experimental group showed more positive feedbacks on the overall feedback survey about the course. 3.Significant differences were not found between the practice of positive psychology-oriented family education and students of different background variables from the experimental group. Finally, based on analyses of the results, suggestions for schools, junior high school teachers, and future research were provided.
