Popis: | 103 Parrots are not a native spice from Taiwan. However, because of international trade, parrots have become the number 3 choice as household pet after dogs, cats and fishes in Taiwan. With the introduction of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973, the licensing system has been established to regulate international wildlife trade. Management and conservation of parrots in Taiwan is still at its early phase and there are rooms for improvement and discussion. As such, it is necessary to also consider viewpoints stipulated in CITES in order to reviewing our existing regulations. This article will focus on the issues of trade, management and conservation of parrots. Started by discussing how private trading and quarantine of parrots would impact domestic wildlife ecosystem. Further more, it will explore the issues concerning breeding and regulation of parrots. Finally, this article will conclude with recommendation for strengthening the management and conservation of parrots. |
