Foil section is one of the keys to the propeller and wing designs, but its actual performance is usually different from the design objectives. Therefore, it requires the development of measurement methods for the flow field around a foil section in order to provide experimental data for the design and the CFD results to be validated and compared. In this thesis, we use a continuous-wave laser and a high-speed CMOS camera to construct an inherently non-intrusive TR-PIV (Time-Resolved Particle Image Velocimetry) system for the flow measurements upon the pressure side of the TVPF (Trans-Velocity Propeller Foil). In order to avoid errors caused by manual adjustments and improve imaging accuracies, we mount the high-speed camera and the continuous laser on a motorized traverse platform. Besides, we construct synthesized particle images of a cylinder flow and an oblique uniform flow using the potential-flow theory for examining the optimum parameters for the cross-correlation computation and identifying uncertainty sources of the PIV analysis to improve its accuracy. Experiments are carried out in the medium cavitation tunnel at the National Taiwan Ocean University. We divide the imaging area upon the pressure side of the foil into 47 windows for measuring the flow fields individually. Finally, we obtain mean velocity fields and associated mean vorticity and pressure distributions, and turbulence statistics such as Reynolds stresses and turbulent kinetic energy. This thesis clearly presents the departures of the design and the CFD results from the experimental data.
