Study on sharing reading applied to the gender equity education for the Second grade students of elementary school

Popis: | 103 The purpose of this study is to explore the application of picture books to gender equity education for the second grade students of elementary school, the growth and change of the second grade students of elementary school on two core abilities including “gender self-understanding” and “gender self-other relationship”, and the students’ learning satisfaction in applying sharing reading to the gender equity education. This study applied action research and adopted the picture books teaching, which is in conformity with gender equality education. Use parent-child sharing reading mode in school in order that they might have an opportunity to discuss about the contents of the books and to predict and recollect the story, and then to realize the children’s reading understanding. Twenty-five second grade students of elementary school have participated in the teaching activity for ten weeks, forty minutes one class and three classes a week. The collected data were analyzed to obtain conclusions through students’ interview, worksheet, unit checklist and feedback from parents. The major findings are as following: 1. That teachers used the children’s picture books and sharing reading in the gender equity education for the second grade students of elementary school is feasible. 2. In connection with the sharing reading applied to the gender equity education, there are two core abilities of “gender self-understanding” and “gender self-other relationship” for the second grade students of elementary school. According to the five concepts of “growth and development of gender”, ” identification of gender”, ” learning and breakthrough of gender role”, ” relationship and interaction of gender” and ” rights and the related issues of gender ” of the two core abilities, it is found that the said concepts are helpful in children’s growth and positive change. 3. The second grade students of elementary school have acquired good result and the satisfaction in sharing reading in gender equity education.
