Their Childhood-- The Study on Asperger Adolescents' Experiences in Elementary School

In this study three Asperger adolescents spoke about the experience in elementary school. The interview focused on their interaction with peers and teachers, leads us to know the problems they have and the feeling about the interpersonal skills training. The results show the frustrating experiences on interpersonal relationship bring about little trust in people and self-centeredness. It leads to the difficulty on distinguishing the cause, congenital or acquired. They seldom stated concrete events in their experiences in elementary schools but the uncomfortable feelings. Besides, the warmness and protection from teachers could keep them from being bullied by the peers. As to interpersonal skills training, it was helpless, they thought, to be trained with other disabled students. They were able to learn the skills but they didn’t know the way to use. However, the cooperation between school and parents can improve Asperger students’ interaction with others. Finally, the researcher shares thoughts from Asperger adolescents with readers. Based on the result of this study, the researcher proposes recommendations to teachers, competent authority of education department and for the purpose of future study.
