The parrot industry has been in Taiwan for more than 20 years. Starting with wild bird trade half a century ago, feeding parrots became unmistakable trend after the Wildlife Conservation Act. The gross output value of the parrot industry is around 5 billion NT dollars. Without quarantine standard and system in Taiwan, however, the industry suffers setbacks for export in recent years. The main purpose of this study would focus on what for competiveness of the parrot industry up to now. The study discussed the network and embeddedness of the parrot industry and did the analysis of the industry within the framework of Diamond Model. It is claimed that the industry is short of competitive advantages in factor conditions, related enterprises, main enterprises, state’s role, and opportunity. The demand condition is the only competitive advantage because the international markets are huge and unsaturated. Two dimensions would be concluded. First, the embeddedness among people, groups, businesses and the government falls short so that a friendly environment for the parrot industry cannot be created in relational embeddedness. Second, the main and related enterprises have created long-term and non-binding business cooperation models based on trust, reciprocal principles and close information exchange with each other. They have strong embeddedness to make the industry boost and upgrade continually in structural embeddedness.
