Design of optimal operation for the separation of binary homogeneous maximum azeotropic mixture in pressure swing distillation system

The study separate binary homogeneous maximum azeotropic mixturesof acetone/chloroform by pressure-swing distillation. We want to get the high purity product withtwo different pressure of distillation columns thatthe main property is according to change the pressure to shift the azeotropic point. The simulation of study uses UNIQUAC physical property in the steady state. Explore the total annual cost (TAC), at the two different pressure of distillation and feed flow rate of each column, the relationship between feed composition, reflux ratio and the total number of plates. The study found to change the pressure to shift the azeotropic composition. The azeotropic composition is 28.22 mol% at 10 atm, 28.04 mol% at 11 atm, 27.89 mol% at 12 atm and, 27.78 mol% at 13 atm that the azeotrope composition is simulated the 0.4 mol% pitch azeotrope point. Lead to different high pressure bottoms discharge XBH, and affecting the low pressure column feed conditions that optimizing total annual cost, so there is optimal operation conditions to respectively, 10atm of XBH = 29.0 mol%, and XBL = 32.35 mol %; 11atm of XBH = 28.8 mol% and XBL = 32.35 mol%; 12atm of XBH = 28.7mol% and XBL = 32.35mol%; 13atm of XBH = 28.6 mol% and XBL = 32.35 mol%, high pressure bottoms discharge XBH will be the lowest total annual cost at distance of azeotropic composition about 0.8mol%, simulate with no change of the low pressure column, low pressure bottoms discharge XBL will be the lowest total annual cost at distance of azeotropic composition about 1.65mol%. The simulation results in the lowest total annual costs is US $ 2,106,000 at 10atm, the lowest total annual costs is US $1,988,000 at 11atm, the lowest total annual costs is US $1,992,000 at 12atm and, the lowest total annual costs is US $2,070,000 at 13atm.The Luyben 2013 designed that the total annual costs is US $ 2,167,000. The study calculated the total annual costs cheaper them the 10atm, 11atm, 12atm and 13atm, relatively to save 2.8%, 8.2%, 8.0% and 4.4% respectively, the total annual cost savings of up to 8.2%.
