Research Concerning Reading Comprehension Improvement Through Drama Education: Fifth Graders

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” The target students involved in this research is twenty-nine fifth graders. Blending is important to reading development. The development of students’ interest in reading and the enhancement of their reading comprehension skills are the main concerns. Based on the approach “Action Research”, the reading activities is blended into the art and humanities curriculum. Data gathered through teaching activities, questionnaires, worksheets, reflective journals and interviews are recorded and analyzed. The teaching activities are designed to stimulate schoolchildren’s association power and creative potentials. The role of the instructor is to facilitate learning by providing circumstances that will guide students to observe and to think. Conclusions are as follows: ~ 1.Blending the reading activities into the drama teaching curriculum is proved to be an effective strategy. The target students are highly motivated during this process. 2.Blending the reading activities into the drama teaching curriculum can advance schoolchildren’s eagerness to improve their reading comprehension abilities. 3.Blending the reading activities into the drama teaching curriculum can inspirit pupil’s willingness to participate owing to the lively multi-learning programs design and the good instructor-pupils interaction. 4.Blending the reading activities into the drama teaching curriculum help stimulating the affective dimension of learning for schoolchildren that is paramount in developing their attitudes and personalities.
