The discussions of communities of practice applying to schools have increased noticeably in recent years. Professional Development School relationships for their ongoing contributions to the mission and vision of the National Association for Professional Development Schools in creating and sustaining genuine collaborative partnerships between P-12 and higher education that shapes educator leadership and practice. These schools are committed to the acquisition and sharing of knowledge among all members of the educational community and depend on research-practitioner collaboration. Conceptual and structural obstacles to student teacher learning in practicums that must be addressed if the professional development school is to achieve its goals are discussed.
