Fabrication of metal hydroxide nanoboxes by using S2O32- as the coordinating etchant toward Cu2O cubic templates

In this study, we use the sacrificial templates synthesis of the HSAB principle, and use Copper(I) oxide as the sacrificial template via the hydrothermal synthesis to prepare the metal hydroxides nanoboxes of nickel, cobalt, and manganese. The metal sources are two parts, the first part is the nickel chloride, cobalt chloride and manganese sulfate; the second part is the nickel acetate, cobalt acetate and manganese acetate. The nanoboxes are characterized by TEM, SEM, BET, XRD, and XPS methods, and are analyzed their surface morphology, properties, and composition. Experimental results show that their surface morphology, and chemical composition : nickel hydroxide is a planar nanobox, made of nickel and oxygen; cobalt hydroxide is a petal nanobox, made of cobalt and oxygen; manganese hydroxide is a flake nanobox, made of manganese and oxygen.The nanoboxes are all hollow and amorphous cube. Their specific surface area of the first part are 215, 334, and 384 m2g-1, respectively. The second part have higher specific surface area, are 435, 459, and 505 m2g-1, respectively. The two parts are all mesoporous structure of 2-40 nm. Finally, we successfully synthesized three kinds of metal hydroxide material, and we will be committed to developing their application in the future.
