Crystal Growth, Electrical Properties and Microstructural Characteristics of (Bi0.5Na0.5)0.925Ba0.075Ti1-xMxO3 (M = Zr, Mn) Lead-Free Piezoelectric Materials

Perovskite sodium bismuth titanate (Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3)-based lead-free piezoelectric materials, show excellent electric field induced strain (E-field-induced strain) behavior due to a multi-phase boundary (morphotropic phase boundary, MPB).In this study,MPB ingredient sodium bismuth titanate - barium titanate [92.5%(Bi0.5Na0.5)TiO3-7.5% BaTiO3 (BNB7.5T)] solid solution as the base material doped by 2% zirconium(Zr),0.2% manganese (0.2%Mn), and 2%Zr+0.1%Mn, to increase relative stability of the material and to improve its temperature-dependent piezoelectric characteristics caused by the instability that can have an electric field induced linear. tremendous strain behavior Experimentally, single crystals were grown by self-flux method. (BNB7.5T crystals doped with Zr and Mn) can be desirable to stabilize the phase structure. X-ray diffraction (XRD) is used to measure the temperature-dependent phase structure, Transmission electron microscope (TEM) is used to observe and analyze the microstructures all well as D-T, P-E, S-E, d33 measurements were carried out to, analyze the dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. The results showed BNB7.5T-Zr, BNB7.5T-Mn and BNB7.5T-Zr-Mn single crystals are up to the maximum size of 10x10x10 mm.BNB7.5T-Mn, BNB7.5-Zr-Mn crystals belong to coexistence of R3c and P4bm phases, but BNB7.5T-2Zr crystal belongs to a pseudo-cubic structure, D-T and P-E curves of BNB7.5T-Zr and BNB7.5T-Zr-Mn crystals showed significant relaxor phenomenon, Its S-E curves displayed a strain up to 0.438% and 0.39%, respectively, at room temperature, which is higher than the commercial lead-based piezoelectric actuator BNB-7.5T, Temperature-dependent P-E and D-T curves of BNB7.5T-Zr crystals show the Td point shift to below room temperature, Temperature-dependent S-E curves display BNB7.5T-Zr and BNB7.5T-Zr-Mn possessing a strain of 0.492% and 0.557%,respectively,at 150oC,which indicates that 2%-Zr-doped BNB7.5T crystals are a highly potential and are environmental friendly piezoelectric actuator. BNB7.5T-Zr-Mn can be used as an energy storage material.
