A Study on Teaching Picture-Book Strategy of Preschool—A Case of Preschool Teachers in Kinmen County

The purpose of this study is to explore the status quo of how to teach picture-book strategy of preschool teachers in Kinmen County. Teaching picture-book for preschool children might open an infinite reading space and make their living experience fruitful. The methodology in this study adopts a questionaire survey. The subjects of this study are teachers at preschool level. A questionnaire on status quo of how to teach picture-book strategy of those teachers was conducted. 156 copies were distributed and 149 valid copies returned. The obtained data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-Test, one-way ANOVA. A series of self-structured interview was conducted with 3 preschool teachers. The 5 major findings related to preschool teachers in this study are shown as follows, 1.The status quo of teaching picture-book strategies in general is above average. The key strategies used for those teachers are narrative language skills, reading context layout. 2.The preschool teachers used teaching picture-book strategies are significantly different in terms of different “teaching-year” of those teachers. 3.The preschool teachers used teaching picture-book strategies are significantly different in terms of “educational background” of those teachers. 4.The preschool teachers used teaching picture-book strategies are significantly different in terms of “related departments” of those teachers. 5.A variety of coping obstacles on teaching picture-book strategies is encountered while narrative language skills, multiple-extension activities, integrating multimedia or reading context layout strategies are mostly applied. Finally, educational implications of this study and recommendations for future study are also proposed.
