When a LED is designed for digital lighting appliances there will inevitably be some derivative problems. The most common problems in a LED lamp are luminous decay and single LED utilization. Our discussion is divided into several parts. First, we present a design of the software and hardware modules of an embedded board with both a sensor and an interface circuit not only to control home LED lighting appliances but also to reduce their differences in brightness caused by luminous decay. This part of the design consists of four parts: an automatically adjusted LED driver, environment illumination detection, a wireless remote control unit and an automatic brightness control. The second part of our discussion is about when a LED lamp uses a halftone as the method to adjust the brightness of a LED array. In such a situation there may be a difference in utilization among the LEDs which may cause a high utilization of a particular one, thus easily damaging and reducing the life of the lamp. Our design, therefore, proposes a shift method by using different halftone patterns together with a complement in the LED array to achieve a uniform utilization of each LED in a LED lamp. The other parts of our discussion will introduce the halftone method in home locations, such as automatic home lighting control, digital capacitive sensor desk lamps and digital LED desk lamps that can adjust the LEDs brightness in the LED array to obtain a uniform illuminated area whenever the user rotates the lamp shade.
