An Investigation on How Working Pressure Impact Working Satisfaction and Job Performance on Fire Fighters - New Taipei City

Popis: | 103 The aim of this study was to investigate that how working pressure impact working satisfaction and job performance on fire fighters, especially on the fire fighters who work in the New Taipei city. Upon the finding, the research provided recommendations for the future study and for relative government organization. For achieving this research aim, the specific objectives were: (1) To understand what fire fighters who work in the New Taipei city are responsible for. (2) To explore what the root cause make fire fighters in the New Taipei city have job stress and how and what the job stress influence on them. (3) To clarify the current situation of job satisfaction and job performance within fire fighters who works in the New Taipei city. (4) To investigate contextual influence between job stress and job satisfaction within fire fighters in the New Taipei city. (5) To investigate contextual influence between job stress and job performance within fire fighters in the New Taipei city. (6) To give the prospective recommendations to National Fire Agency in Taiwan and in the other countries in order to be a reference towards working out future scope and action for duty and policy objectives. In order to contribute the theoretical understanding of this research, a major industry background was overviewed. Additionally, upon the each specific objective, the correlative literatures, namely job stress, job satisfaction, job performance were reviewed. Also, contextual influence between job stress and job satisfaction, contextual influence between job stress and job performance, and contextual influence between job satisfaction and job performance within fire fighters were discussed. Moreover, in-depth interviews were undertaken with 24 fire fighters who serve in the New Taipei city currently, whose age is between 20 and 50. Sampling method is by judgment sampling, one of Non-random sampling. The interviews are whereby telephone or face to face interview for collecting the deeper perspectives upon each objective, and each interview will cost 60 minutes. This paper found that there is a noticeable difference between current and past work content within firefighters who worked in the New Taipei city. In addition, workload considerably enhanced and they were required to be more specialized and did more thoughtfully. Thus, the firefighters in the New Taipei city had load of job stress and sources of occurring job stress had become more and more diversified. Such sources not only impact the physiological condition but also influence the psychological condition among the firefighters. Overall, most of firefighters, works in the New Taipei city, didn’t feel satisfied with their work. As for job performance, they judged that their own performance is passable, but it still could improve. In addition, proceeding motivational factors of job satisfaction and job performance, offered from this paper, might not only enhance the job satisfaction and job performance among the firefighters. But also, they would have better stress resistance. Furthermore, this study found suddenly that job characteristics might influence indirectly job satisfaction and job performance. In the light of the findings, this study provided relative recommendations for improving situation about overloaded workload and reducing working pressure among the firefighters, work in the New Taipei city. In addition, it also advised how to minimize the impacts, came from working pressure, on working satisfaction and job performance on firefighters. Such recommendations were favorable for both academics and the National Fire Agency in Taiwan. |
