The Effects of Swimming on Body Image and Self-Actualization－A Case of Senior Grades Students of Elementary School in Taoyuan

| Popis: | 103 This study explored the impact of participation in swimming on the body image and self-actualization of the senior grade students of elementary schools. A questionnaire survey was conducted on the students who participated in the Taoyuan County Cgung-Shan Elementary School Swimming Program in 2013. A total of 370 valid samples were retrieved, and the data were analyzed by the structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings were as follows: (1) participation in swimming had a positive impact on body image for the senior grade students; (2) participation in swimming had a positive impact on self-actualization for the senior grade students; (3) body image had a positive impact on self-actualization for the senior grade students; (4) girls were more appearance-orientated than boys regarding body image; (5) girls were more curious than boys regarding self-actualization. Based on the findings, suggestions were proposed as reference to educational authorities. |
