The first part of thesis explains a series of five metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on trivalent metal ions (Al3+, Ga3+, In3+) and V-shaped ligands, 4,4'-sulfonyldibenzoic acid (H2SBA) and diphenylmethane-4,4'-dicaboxylic acid (H2MBA) which were synthesized under solvothermal reactions. These five MOFs are represented as given below, [Al(OH)(SBA)]…….…….…….(1) [Ga(OH)(SBA)]…….……….…(2) [In(OH)(SBA)]……..………….(3) [Al(OH)(MBA)]……………….(4) [Ga(OH)(MBA)]……………….(5) The second part deals a series of six new aluminum MOFs based on Schiff base type linear dicarboxylic acid ligands (which were prepared by ourselves), 4-[[(4-carboxyphenyl)imino]methyl]benzoic acid (H2CAB), azobenzene-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (H2ABDC), and 4,4'-((1E,1'E)-hydrazine-1,2-iylidenebis(methanylylidene))dibenzoic acid (H2DMDA) which were synthesized under solvothermal reaction conditions. And the six new MOFs are represented as following, [Al(OH)(CAB)]……………….(6) [Al(OH)(CAB)]…………….…(7) [Al(OH)(ABDC)]……………..(8) [Al(OH)(ABDC)]……………..(9) [Al(OH)(DMDA)]…………….(10) [Al(OH)(DMDA)]…………….(11) All the eleven MOFs have been characterized using various physicochemical techinques inculding powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) data, UV-Vis, IR, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravmetric analysis, variable temperature PXRD and gas sorption measurements.
